What is Vastu Shastra?
Vastu combines the words 'vastu' (dwelling) and 'shastra' (science). It holds that every space has an energy field shaped by its orientation, layout and the placement of rooms and objects. By aligning a building with natural forces, Vastu aims to create balance and well-being for its occupants.
The Five Elements and Directions
Vastu works with the five elements — earth, water, fire, air and space — and the eight directions. Each direction is associated with an element and a quality of life. For example, the north-east is linked to water and spirituality, while the south-east governs fire and energy. Correct placement channels these energies positively.
Home and Office Vastu
In homes, Vastu guides the ideal placement of the entrance, kitchen, bedrooms and prayer room. In workplaces, it addresses the seating of leadership, the accounts department and the reception to encourage growth and harmony. Simple, practical remedies can correct many Vastu imbalances without major renovation.
